Although grades and entrance exam scores are important factors in becoming a competitive applicant, professional schools also look for traits of leadership, social maturity, motivation, initiative, perseverance, and breadth of interests. At UAB, it's easy to develop these traits both in the classroom and through a variety of extracurricular activities, including campus organizations and honor societies. It is important for you to find a few activities that you enjoy and can pursue in depth. It is also recommended that you become involved with Alpha Epsilon Delta, the pre-health honor society.
Alpha Epsilon Delta is the Pre-Health Honor Society. The object of the society is to encourage and recognize excellence in pre-health scholarship; to promote cooperation and contacts between health care professionals and pre-health students and educators. AED provides a forum for students with common interests and uses its resources to benefit health organizations, charities, and the community. Membership in AED is an honor bestowed in recognition of superior scholastic achievement of a student and affords an opportunity to develop qualities of initiative, leadership and self-education by participating in the activities of the chapter and the Society.
