Who is invited to participate?
Students whose ACT sub-scores place them in both developmental English (EH 091) and developmental mathematics (MA 098) courses.
I don't believe that my ACT sub-scores accurately reflect my skills. What are my options?
You may choose to take placement tests to ensure that you are placed in the correct courses. Students generally take English and mathematics placement tests during Goin' Green New Student Orientation. Because most students are registered for orientation sessions after the program start date, alternate testing dates in April and May can be arranged by contacting UAB's Testing and Placement office at (205)934-5503. Please ask to speak to Regina McFadden and reference the Jump Start Program.
I live out of the area. Is housing available?
Yes. Participants in the Jump Start Program are eligible for residential housing.
Is financial aid available?
Yes. See http://main.uab.edu/Sites/apply/financial_aid/ for more information. Please note that you will need to complete the FAFSA 08-09 form.
Will I still be able to participate in Goin' Green New Student Orientation?
Yes, you must register for (and attend) an orientation session. If you have not done so already, please register today at www.uab.edu/orientation.
What are the costs of the program?
Tuition (8 credit hours) and student fees for the summer term will be approximately $1,500. See http://main.uab.edu/Sites/apply/accepted/41509/ for a detailed breakdown of expenses. Please note that the bulk of this amount ($1,264 for tuition) goes toward classes that would be required in your first semester.
Sounds great, how do I register for and learn more about the program?
Please contact the Office for Student Academic Success at (205)934-8184 or email us at jumpstart@uab.edu.
