Student Concerns and Complaints

General Studies is committed to providing each student with the quality support that is needed for academic success through our advising and academic success programs. It is very important to us to make sure students have the opportunity to share feedback as needed. Certainly we want to know if there is any situation that has caused concern. While most student concerns or complaints can be resolved by discussing the matter with the person (s) directly involved, there may be situations in which the issue is not resolved in this manner. If your complaint has not been resolved, you may choose to have the issue “officially documented” and reviewed further by submitting your concern in accordance with our policy stated as follows:

Students have the right at any time to file a complaint against any staff member or departmental procedure when they believe they were mistreated, received incorrect information or unsatisfactory service, or when they believe their rights were violated or a policy or procedure was not followed.

If you have encountered a problem with a person or a procedure in our office, you should present your concern in a timely manner.  You can usually get the matter resolved by speaking directly with those most closely involved or with their supervisor.  Often, what is perceived to be wrongdoing may actually be a matter of miscommunication, misunderstanding, or the need to have a policy or procedure explained.  However, if you feel the problem still exists after taking the approach described above, you may submit a formal, written complaint to our office using the form below.  We will give thoughtful consideration to your complaint, and you can expect a written response within two weeks.
