Dear Prospective Cadet,
As you enter a new phase in your life, you have to make some tough decisions. For those of you who choose to accept the challenge offered by the ROTC program, I applaud your decision and can provide some guidance. Let me try to answer some of your concerns about becoming a cadet.
The young men and women who join the ROTC program are given the opportunity to develop into great junior leaders. The program takes your motivation, the support from your fellow cadets, and instructor supervision to help you reach your highest goals in all aspects of your collegiate career. You will be brought into an organization that teaches you standards, values, and how to lead.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham provides a rich environment for you to pursue your academic, physical fitness and social interaction. The location and rigor of the courses allow a diverse mixture of experiences. If you intend to pursue a medical related program, many options are available through the university. Participation in the ROTC program takes advantage of the university's location.
The ROTC program gives you an opportunity to gain practical experience, and you can receive financial assistance for college. The program allows cadets to compete for scholarships to pay for tuition, books and a stipend. All students receive a monthly living allowance during their last two years as junior and seniors in the program.
If you feel you have the desire and skills to pursue this opportunity, please contact the UAB Department of Military Science at (205) 934-7215, and ask to speak with the Professor of Military Science or the Recruiting Operations Officer. I look forward to the opportunity to tell you about the program and the different options available to you. Our instructors are true professionals that strive to provide you with an atmosphere that fosters learning, and develops your leadership skills in a challenging and fun environment.
Sincerely,
Kelly Donna
