For Students

UAB students are increasingly engaged in the community of Birmingham and beyond and the Office for Service Learning offers an array of opportunities to become involved.

We are interested in assisting you to become engaged with the community whether it be through a service-learning class, volunteering, working with a student organization, or taking an Alternative Break. An increasing variety of classes, student organizations, and community events will help you find your passion for engagement.

CONNECTING WITH THE COMMUNITY THROUGH UAB

  • UAB Student Life 

    UAB Student Involvement offers many opportunities for students to connect with each other and with the community of Birmingham. Whether it is community service for Into the Streets (volunteer outreach Day), a monthly service project, an ongoing initiative, or a retreat, UAB Student Life has a program to fit your schedule and time commitment. 

    In addition  UAB's Student Leadership office houses the Leadership and Service Council, which offers creative service opportunities to learn leadership skills for problem-solving in student organizations and for personal improvement.  Any UAB student may attend its retreats, programs, and service events.  Each year the program awards two Emerging Leaders Scholarships to students with strong potential for leadership.     

  • Career Service Office 

    UAB Career Services is a wonderful resource for students wishing to engage with the community and to access internships, work study, and volunteer opportunities e the opportunity for students to engage with the community and to access volunteer opportunities, all listed under Job Listings.

  • Office for Study Away  

    UAB Study Away facilitates excellent service-learning opportunities abroad.  Visit Study Away and scroll down to the Service Learning category.
