Senior cornerback Kevin Sanders intercepted a pass to help preserve a shutout in UAB’s season finale against the University of Central Florida. Sanders ended the season in a four-way tie for the national lead in interceptions, with seven—four of them coming with his right hand in a cast after breaking it in the game against the University of Southern Mississippi. Sanders finished his career with 15 total picks, the most by a Blazer since UAB joined Conference USA and the second most in school history behind Don Blackmon (1991-94). “We weren’t sure Kevin would be able to play after the Southern Miss game,” says UAB coach Neil Callaway, “but he came back and got four picks in the final three games.”
