Five years ago, Birmingham-based photographer Melissa Springer documented
the lives of the city's homeless in an award-winning issue of UAB Magazine.
For the spring 2008 edition of the magazine, she took her Hasselblad camera
into nursing homes, beauty shops, and private homes across the area to
capture the many faces of aging. Cover subject Curtis Owen was photographed
at the senior center in Muscoda, Alabama.
