MLOA Guidelines

Military Leave of Absence

The following guidelines are for the applicants and their advisors.

1. Students discuss their deployment with the academic advisor to review the ramifications of taking a leave for an unspecified period.


2. Students called to active duty after classes begin must contact the Office of Academic Programs and Policy, HUC 470, (or phone 205-934-9708) for a complete withdrawal from the current term. A full reduction in tuition and fees will be made; however, such refunds will first be applied to any outstanding obligations and to any scholarship, grant or loan the student has received for that term.


3. Students receiving Federal Title IV Financial Aid should contact the Office of Financial Aid, HUC 317, 205-934-8223.


4. Students may submit their MLOA application by email or hand deliver to the Veterans Services Office, HUC 524.


5. Students are encouraged to return to UAB following their active military service. Students do not have to reapply or pay readmission fees; however, they must contact the Veterans Services Office to complete an Update form.


6. Students who have attended another college/university or taken CLEP exams must submit official transcripts to update their UAB records.
