Resources for VA Students

Tutorial Assistance Program
Tutorial assistance is available if you are receiving VA educational assistance at the half-time or more rate and have a deficiency in a subject making tutoring necessary. If you have questions on this program, please contact the office of Veterans affairs at 1-888-442-4551.

Work Study Program
If you're a full-time or 3/4-time student in a college degree program, or a vocational or professional program, you can "earn while you learn" with a VA work-study allowance. For more information, review the Workstudy Program Information on the VA website.

Student Success Center
STUDENT RESOURCES AND SUPPORT LEAD TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS.
There are many routes to success, and UAB is dedicated to helping you find your personal path. Be sure to take advantage of the many special classes, people, and resources providing academic support and advice when you need it. Don't wait until it's too late to ask for help - use these resources from the beginning.

UAB's Students Veterans of America Chapter
UAB's Students Veterans of America (SVA)Chapter is a veterans' student group that provides peer-to-peer networks for veterans who are attending UAB. For more information about UAB SVA, contact the faculty advisor, Dr. Casey Borch, caborch@uab.edu, or President, Michael Rudulph, rudulph@uab.edu.

Disability Support Services

Counseling and Wellness Center
The Counseling and Wellness Center provides you with confidential counseling, educational materials, and a variety of programs focusing on your overall health. The Center's philosophy comes from a personality model that identifies five dimensions of optimal health: physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual. We believe that wellness is dependent on our conscious commitment to grow and seek improvement in all of these areas.

Birmingham Vet Center
