TRIO Academic Services - Tutors

Tutoring FAQs
How is tutoring scheduled?
During Semester Conferences (held at the beginning of each term), TAS students are assigned weekly sessions (which each range from 30 minutes to one hour in length) with a tutor(s) in a course(s) which TAS determines the student needs assistance. Weekly appointment times are selected from the available times of all tutors capable of tutoring that course. Once tutoring is scheduled, students are expected to keep the same appointment time(s) each week. Both individual and group tutoring are offered.
How much do tutors make?

Tutors earn $7.25, $8.50, or $10.00 per hour. New tutors are on probation for their first term with TAS. For the first half of that term, they are paid $7.25 per hour. After mid-term (the last day to drop a class with a "W"), new tutors review their performance with their coordinator. Those who have provided effective tutoring and have learned and adhered to TAS policies and procedures receive a raise in pay to $8.50 per hour. Tutors who have completed their probationary period are paid $10.00 per hour.

Note: Tutor pay rates and rate increases may be adjusted for tutors who begin work after tutoring has begun for the semester or in other situations as deemed appropriate by the coordinator.

When and where does tutoring take place?
Tutoring is provided from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am to 5:30 pm on Fridays in TRIO Academic Services’ main office.
