Are there specific forms I need to have filled out and bring to clinic?
YES! Click on Tryout Required Paperwork to print forms.
Can high school seniors tryout?
Yes, but you must be accepted for enrollment at UAB.
What should I wear for clinic and tryouts?
Cheer: shorts, shirt and cheer shoes.
Golden Girls: Sports bra or dance top, dance pants, and any dance shoes.
For tryouts, all applicants should be "game ready."
Are tryouts open?
Yes, tryouts are open to family and friends.
Are there height and weight requirements?
Not for tryouts. However, members who make the team will work with a specialist to maintain a specific body fat percentage.
Are there academic requirements?
You must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment at UAB to be eligible for tryout. Minimum GPA's will be discussed during clinic.
Will I be required to attend a cheer or dance camp?
Yes, all team members are required to go to summer camp.
Do I have to pay for my uniforms or travel?
No, the university supplies all uniforms and equipment. All travel, including camp, is paid for by UAB.
What are practice hours?
Practices are set by the Spirit Coordinator and coaches and are subject to change. Specific times will be discussed during clinic.
How many hours a week should I allow for team practices and games?
Approximately 10 - 15 hours per week.
Are practices held during the summer?
Yes, there will be some summer practices.
Can I work and be part of a team?
Yes, but you will need a flexible employer as team commitment is the priority.
Does the team travel?
Yes, travel opportunities are available.
