Purpose
Motivated by its vision of “enriching the university experience by valuing diversity and providing opportunities for lifelong learning,” it is the extreme pleasure of the Office of the Provost and the Office of Equity and Diversity to announce UAB Community Week, January 22 – 28, 2012.
The purposes of the week, which has been endorsed by the President’s Cabinet, are to recognize UAB’s diverse population and to provide opportunities to learn about and appreciate diversity through various programs.
These include:
- lectures
- discussions
- films
- volunteer projects
- cultural events
Overview
UAB Community Week 2012 celebrates UAB’s unique student body and workforce by encouraging unity, dialogue and learning. Each year a mixture of student groups and academic and administrative departments come together to create a week that promotes understanding and unification around campus.
President's Diversity Awards
As a part of UAB Community Week 2012, the Vice President for Equity and Diversity and the Office of the Provost announce a call for nominations for the 2012 President’s Award for Diversity.
President Carol Z. Garrison has emphasized the importance of institutional diversity and has established a definitive goal for the University to nurture diversity of thought, culture, gender and ethnicity.
In recognition of this important objective, the University has established the President’s Diversity Award in honor and appreciation of those who have demonstrated outstanding efforts towards advancing the University’s mission of embracing diversity while maintaining academic excellence.
Call for Nominations
The Vice President for Equity and Diversity and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs announce a call for nominations for the 2012 President's Award for Diversity. This annual award recognizes significant achievements of full-time faculty, staff and students toward developing a more culturally diverse, competent and inclusive university community.
