Educational outreach on women's issues
The Women's Center participates in health fairs, eating disorder screenings, educational workshops on topics such as acquaintance rape, conflict resolution, sexual harassment, and a variety of other issues. We normally advertise upcoming events in the student newspaper Kaleidoscope and on bulletin boards around UAB's campus. We also use informational mail-outs to distribute educational material to our women students.
Sexual assault support and advocacy
Our Women's Center Counselor works closely with Rape Response to meet the needs of UAB students who have been through a sexual assault. If you are seeking counseling because you have been raped and our Women's Center counselor is not available, you can call Rape Response's crisis line at (205) 323-7273 (or 323-RAPE).
Sexual harassment consultation
If you are a UAB student and feel that you have been sexually harassed, our Women's Center counselor can help you deal with your feelings and can explain what your options are should you decide to file a formal complaint. Should you decide not to go through the formal process, your disclosure will be held in confidence.
