A student must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a program leading to a degree or certificate. Students admitted as "Regular" (degree seeking) meet this requirement. Students admitted as Temporary, Special, Transient, Post Baccalaureate, and Non-Degree Graduate
do not
meet this requirement. A student will not be paid for a retroactive term if he/she was classified as ineligible at the completion of that term.
If a student is currently attending, he/she must be making satisfactory academic progress, as defined in the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (listed under “Complete the UAB Forms”).
A student must not owe a refund on grants previously received at
any
institution.
A student must not be in default on any loan received at
any
institution.
A student who has received funds in excess of the aggregate limits allowed under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program or the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program is not eligible for additional federal aid.
A student must be classified as one of the following:
A citizen or national of the United States.
A permanent resident of the United States.
In the United States for other than a temporary purpose and be able to provide evidence from the Immigration and Naturalization Service of his/her intent to become a permanent resident.
A citizen of certain Pacific Islands (Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Republic of Palau).
A student must demonstrate financial need for all programs except the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford/Ford Loan and Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students.
A student must enroll on at least a half-time basis to participate in all federal programs:
Six credit hours for Undergraduate Students (Pell Grant eligibility can be based on less than half-time).
Five credit hours for Graduate Students.
Courses taken for audit purposes are not considered in determining enrollment for a term.
During the summer term, UAB offers several sessions in addition to the regular summer term. You must be registered as at least a half-time student during a session to receive financial aid funds during that period. If you are registered as less than a half-time student in a session and you are also registered for a later session, you will receive your aid during the later session provided the combined hours for these sessions total at least half-time enrollment.
