What we do
Internal Communications and Relations is part of the UAB Office of Public Relations & Marketing. We provide news and information to UAB employees to help create and sustain a positive, supportive and diverse work environment in which faculty and staff can excel, in keeping with the university's strategic plan goals and objectives. Our group also helps business and administrative units create and implement internal communications strategies to inform, educate and motivate employees to support policies and programs that are in the best interest of UAB and its faculty and staff.
How we do it
We distribute information through several sources.
UAB Reporter- a publication by and for the UAB community designed to highlight and explore the interests, objectives and achievements of UAB and its faculty and staff.
Editorial content includes news of university initiatives and awards, innovative programs and research, employee profiles, calendar of events, and classified ad listings.
A color PDF of each print edition is available online at www.uab.edu/reporter, and previous editions also are archived there.
News items must be submitted by noon Monday the week prior to publication and are used at the discretion of the publication staff.
An editorial calendar of publishing dates for 2008 is online at www.uab.edu/reporter. An electronic copy is available by e-mailing your request to reporter@uab.edu.
The UAB Reporter is distributed free to employees through office mail. Office managers should report any change in addresses or number of copies received to reporter@uab.edu.
Reporter Online- (www.uab.edu/reporter) is the companion Web site that includes and expands on the mission of the print edition. Daily updates provide employees the most recent information available, and Web-only features extend our coverage of campus news and events.

The eReporter - a twice-weekly electronic newsletter for distributing news, time-sensitive information and reminders to all UAB employees with a BlazerID. The eReporter is distributed through e-mail (from UAB News & Information) before the start of business each Tuesday and Friday. It is the university's preferred method for bulk-message distribution.
The deadline for submitting items for inclusion is noon Monday and Thursday to be included in the respective next day's edition.
A link to previous editions is included is accessible by clicking on The eReporter logo in the banner. Select the date from the pull-down menu.
Managers are asked to print and post copies of The eReporter for employees who may not have access to e-mail during the work day.
Non-employees may subscribe to The eReporter: Send an e-mail to subscribe-ereporter@listserv.uab.edu and type subscribe in the body; an e-mail requesting confirmation will be sent to you. Subscribers may unsubscribe from a non-uab.edu e-mail address by sending an e-mail to unsubscribe-ereporter@listserv.uab.edu.
BlazerNET (http://blazernet.uab.edu/) - the university's centralized intranet portal for faculty, staff and students that is accessible using a BlazerID and password.
Internal Communication and Relations is responsible for the UAB Focus, News and Events channels on the BlazerNET Home Tab. Submit information for posting there to reporter@uab.edu.
Internal Communications and Relations also assists the BlazerNET Operating Committee and BlazerNET tab and channel owners and administrators with developing content for the intranet site. For assistance, e-mail blazernet@uab.edu.
BlazerNET can be used to send targeted announcements to employees and students based on their specific role at UAB. Use the targeted announcement request form found in the BlazerNET online help center.

UAB is a large campus with a great deal of activity, and try as we might we can't know everything that is happening - without your help.
Call us. Write. E-mail. Upload. Fax. One way or another, give us your news and suggestions for stories and photos.
And remember, the sooner you contact us, the better able we are to help you.
