Schizophrenia / Schizoaffective Disorders

1. Genetic Study: Project Among African Americans to Explore Risks for Schizophrenia (PAARTNERS) Schizophrenia liability genes among African Americans (Principal Investigators: Rodney Go, Ph.D.; Jacqueline Feldman, M.D.; Robert Savage, Ph.D.; Paul Lyons, M.D., Ph.D.)

Mood Disorders

1. Suicidality in Major Depressive Disorder: The objective is to study the efficacy of Risperidone in the treatment of severe depression. (Investigators: Xiaohua Li, MD, PhD, Daniel Dahl, M.D., and William Ryan, M.D.)

2. Bipolar Disorder: The purpose of this eight-week study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of beaded, extended-release capsules, Equetro, in an open-label, single treatment trial in patients, ages 19-65, with bipolar disorder experiencing a major depressive episode. (Investigators: Xiaohua Li, MD, PhD, and Daniel Dahl, MD)

3. Bipolar Disorder: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term effectiveness and safety of Geodon when it is taken together with either Lithium or Depakote, compared to either Lithium or Depakote taken along in subjects experiencing manic or mixed symptoms of bipolar disorder. (Investigators: Xiaohua Li, MD, PhD and Daniel Dahl, MD)

4. Blood Study: The purpose of this study is to test the changes of an enzyme, glycogen synthase kinase-3 in the blood cells of individuals with either Bipolar Disorder or Major Depressive Disorder before and after treatment with medications for mood disorders. (Principal Investigator: Xiaohua Li, M.D., Ph.D.)

1. Anxiety Study: The purpose of this study is to look at the safety, effectiveness, and tolerability of different dose levels of SSR149415 compared to paroxetine and placebo (a medically inactive substance) when used in people, ages 19-64, with generalized anxiety disorder. (Investigator: Carl Houck, MD)

2. Elderly Psychosis: The purpose of the study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability for 6 weeks of Asenapine in elderly subjects, ages 65 or older, with psychosis. (Investigator: Daniel Dahl, MD)

Pediatric Trials

1. Schizophrenia: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of oral ziprasidone compared to placebo in the treatment of adolescent subjects, ages 13-17, with schizophrenia. (Investigators: James Cullinan, D.O., Laura Montgomery-Barefield, MD, and Lee Tolbert, PhD)

2. Autism: The purpose of the study is to look at the safety and effectiveness of different doses of Aripiprazole compared to placebo in children and adolescents, ages 6 to 19, with autistic disorder. (Investigators: Latamia White, MD, Laura Montgomery-Barefield, MD, Tolulope Aduroja, MD, Suneel Katragadda, MD, and Lee Tolbert, PhD)
