The UAB/Engel Therapeutic Preschool Program focuses on the early intervention and treatment of emotionally and behaviorally at risk children for the promotion of emotional, behavioral, social, and academic school readiness. It is under the direction Dr. Lee Ascherman, and Nancy Labriola, Speech Language Pathologist/Therapeutic Preschool Teacher. Liz Leinheiser, a psychiatric nurse, and Bonnie Wooten, assistant teacher, complete the team approach. The program serves 2-5 year olds and accepts referrals throughout the year. Children attend five days a week receive individual and group psychoanalytical therapy, speech/language services, and occupational therapy from the UAB Occupational Department.
