State of the University Addresses

2009 State of the University Address (October 22, 2009).President Garrison highlights the accomplishments and challenges of the past year, UAB's 40th anniversary, and 40 reasons to believe that the university's future will be even more successful and innovative tnan its past.

 

2008 State of the University Address (October 16,2008).  President Garrison discusses the university's progress during the past year and examines prospects and challenges that lie ahead.

2007 State of the University Address (October 4, 2007). President Garrison highlights campuswide excellence in education, research, health care and the arts during 2006-07, and discusses stragies for building upon our successes.

Board of Trustees Institutional Presentations

2009 Board of Trustees Institutional Presentation  (February 6, 2009). President Garrison highlights the profound impact that UAB research has at home and around the globe.  Featured speakers are Gary Warner, director of research in Computer Forensics; David Standaert, director of UAB’s Center for Neurodegeneration and Experimental Therapeutics; Melanie Shores, principal investigator of the GEMS program; and Salpy Pamboukian, medical director of the Mechanical Circulatory Support Device program.

2008 Board of Trustees Institutional Presentation (February 8, 2008). President Garrison briefly updates the Board on recent accomplishments of UAB faculty and students and introduces 4 presenters (three faculty and one undergraduate student), who discuss their respective research projects that are opening new doors in science and medicine, public health, archaeology, and materials engineering.

2007 Board of Trustees Institutional Presentation (February 2, 2007). President Garrison discusses how UAB is accomplishing its mission in teaching, research and service, and having a profound impact throughout the community and state, the nation, and the world.

 

Presentation to Regional Elected Officials

Partnering for a Stronger Economy: UAB, Our Region and Our State (January 26, 2009).  President Garrison illustrates UAB's role as the economic engine of the Birmingham area and Alabama, and how state budget decisions in these challenging times need to be prudent and equitable.

 

Presentation to "The Impact of Poverty on Our Community" Conference

"UAB and Birmingham: Partnering to Combat Poverty" (May 11, 2009). At a day-long conference held at UAB's Hill University Center, featuring a keynote address by Congressman Artur Davis, President Garrison discusses how UAB continues partnering with Birmingham to improve quality of life through better education, research and healthcare, and economic development.
