Dr. Capilouto was named Acting Provost of UAB in 2002 and to the permanent post in 2005. He served as Dean of the UAB School of Public Health from 1994-2001 before he returned to his research and faculty appointment. He received his bachelor's and dental degrees and master's degree in epidemiology from schools within the University of Alabama System and his doctorate in health policy and management from Harvard University. He first joined the UAB faculty in 1975.
