Clinical Eye Research

Optometry 07 lounge
Faculty in the Department of Optometry are active in a variety of research areas. Interests range from dry eye, low vision, to pediatric eye problems.

Current studies are supported by federal funds from the National Eye Institute as well as industry. Many studies are conducted in the Clinical Eye Research Facility (CERF) located on the fourth floor of the Henry B. Peters Building. This facility has four examination rooms and two full-time staff research technicians. Three of the CERF exam rooms are outfitted for standard clinical eye examinations. One lane is designed for 20’ testing of visual acuity. Additional testing faciliteis include fundus photography, Humphrey visual fields, tests of contrast sensitivity, and behavioral assessments of visual acuity in preverbal and nonverbal individuals using the Teller Acuity Cards.

The CERF includes a separate waiting area to accommodate participants during their study visits and a small conference room for study related meetings.
