UABSOAlumni of the Year Award
Call for Nominations and Criteria
The Alumni of the Year Award is given each year to one alumnus/alumna in recognition of his/her outstanding achievement and service to the profession and community. The winner reflects the goals and purposes of the UABSO Alumni Association in his/her professional and personal life. The purposes of the UABSO Alumni Association, as stated in its bylaws are:
- to promote the interest of the profession of Optometry
- to promote the interest of the UAB School of Optometry
- to maintain mutually beneficial relations between the School of Optometry and its alumni
- to aid the School of Optometry in its quest to implement and fulfill its purposes and objectives
- to foster a fraternal spirit among the alumni of the School of Optometry
- to aid in the procurement of qualified students for the School of Optometry
- to establish special funds for the benefit of the School of Optometry
Nominees for Alumni of the Year will be evaluated for their contributions in areas such as the following:
Professional Involvement -- including awards, membership and leadership in organizations, and presentations; locally, nationally and internationally.
Charitable Involvement – including participation, leadership and awards; locally, nationally and internationally.
UABSO Involvement – including support of the goals and purposes of the Alumni Association as stated above, such as participation in events and financial support.
The UABSO Alumni Association accepts nominations for this annual award from dues-paying alumni. To nominate yourself or a colleague, please use the criteria points above to prepare your nomination.
