UAB Nursing Scholars Program

UAB Nursing Scholars program for Entering Freshman

The UAB Nursing Scholars Program is for academically talented high school seniors who are strongly considering a career in nursing. The UAB Nursing Scholars Program insures admission to the world-class UAB School of Nursing upon successful completion of the required undergraduate prenursing foundation and core classes. A minimum BSN Foundation GPA of 3.2 and an overall GPA of 3.0 is required for entry into the upper division nursing courses.

Qualifications

  • A high school senior with a composite ACT score of 25 or above or a composite SAT score of 1130.
  • A minimum high school grade point average of 3.25 on the academic classes required for admissions to UAB.
  • Be admitted through the UAB Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Application Process

  • Be admitted through the UAB Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Complete the UAB Nursing Scholars Program application.
  • One letter of recommendation from a high school administrator, counselor or teacher describing your suitability for a career in nursing.
  • Write a one-page essay on why you have selected nursing as a career and your plans
  • A resume, outlining health care interest/experience, campus/community involvement, leadership, employment, etc.
  • Official high school transcript.
  • The School of Nursing Office of Student Affairs must receive the completed UAB Nursing Scholars Program application, recommendation, essay, official high school transcript and resume by June 30, 2008.

Selection

The composite ACT or SAT score, the applicant’s high school academic grade point average (computed on subjects required for undergraduate admission to UAB) and all additional application material will be used in the selection process for the UAB Nursing Scholars Program. A first review of the files will be done within the month of February with notification of acceptance to the UAB Nursing Scholars Program made by the second week of March.

If you need financial support to earn a college degree, UAB can make it easy to apply for assistance. When you submit a completed financial aid application, you are considered for all aid programs for which you qualify. UAB Nursing Scholars Program applicants are encouraged to inquire about academic scholarships.
