Biography
Dr. Buckner is a four-time graduate of UAB and a faculty member at UAB for over 30 years. She is currently Professor of Nursing and Coordinator of Honors in Nursing. She works extensively with Honors in Nursing students to develop honors research projects, secure approvals of institutions and present findings for the improvement of nursing practice. She is a Fellow in the Roy Adaptation Association, and serves as the national research chair for the Association of Camp Nurses. In 2005 she was the recipient of the Ingalls/National Alumni Society Award for lifetime Achievement in Teaching at UAB.

Research/Clinical Interest
Her work in honors education has resulted in presentations on program initiation, characteristics of honors students, and ethical issues in research. She has worked with honors graduates to submit their work for publication in peer-reviewed national nursing journals. Her clinical specialties are maternal-child nursing and nursing education. Her research interests have focused on the study of self-management of asthma by adolescents, parenting, and behavioral assessment of neonates, both low and high-risk.
