The State of Alabama has announced plans to provide interest-free student loans to nurses to ease the shortage of nurses in some areas of the state. The interest-free loans will be available through the Alabama College Loan Program. Click Alabama College Loan Program for more information.

Nurses who qualify will have any interest from the loans waived (along with the any fees on the loans) as long as they work in the state. To qualify for an interest-free student loan, a nurse must hold a valid nursing license issued by the Alabama Board of Nursing and show proof of working as a full-time nurse in Alabama for 12 consecutive months. The loans can apply to the completion of a BSN or graduate degree in Nursing.
