Ms. Janet Dickerson Johnston, MSN alumni of UAB School of Nursing, received the National Outstanding Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Preceptor Award at the National Association for Pediatric Nurse Practitioners conference held in Florida this past week. The newly created award was established by the Association of Faculties of Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (AFPNP) to recognize a pediatric nurse practitioner preceptor who has made significant contributions to the education of pediatric nurse practitioners at the regional, national, or international level. Dr. Jean Ivey, from the School of Nursing, nominated Ms. Johnston for the award "Janet is devoted to providing the very best training possible to future advanced practice nurses. She is a role model for all to follow. I am proud to call her my colleague." After receiving the award, Janet said that the award is recognition of the wonderful team she works with at Children's Hospital. "Being a preceptor is such an amazing experience. We get some of the brightest and talented graduate pediatric nursing students, and because we work as a team these students are exposed to a wide breath of disciplines which will help them as they develop in their career. This is such an honor for all of us."
