Picture in Jordan

Since 1992 I have made a dozen visits to Jordan to mentor nursing faculty at 5 schools of nursing in the Middle East, Al al-Bayt, Hashemite, Philadelphia, Al-Zaytoonah and Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST). As a Fulbright Scholar (1995-97) at JUST, my serial award was the first of its kind for Nursing in the Middle East. My Fulbright Award was specifically designed to provide developmental support for a new school of nursing at JUST consisting only of very junior faculty. I provided consultation on the development of numerous research studies and dissertations, refinement and editing of numerous scholarly manuscripts, and I also reviewed/evaluated new and ongoing undergraduate and graduate nursing courses. Although my major emphasis was primarily in Jordan, I have also provided consultation to nursing faculty working in Qatar, Lebanon, Oman, and Iraq. In addition, I have authored a chapter on Jordanian Americans and a section on Islam for the 4th and 5th edition of a widely adopted undergraduate text on transcultural nursing. In 2002, in recognition of my exemplary efforts, I received the first Excellence in Nursing Award on behalf of nursing faculty at JUST, which was conveyed by Princess Muna, mother of King Abdullah of Jordan.
