Since 2004, UAB faculty (Dr. Barbara Woodring and Dr. Joe Burrage) have been working in collaboration with a project supported by the International Centers for Excellence in Research (ICER), through the UAB School of Public Health (Principal Investigators Dr. Eric Chamot and Dr. Sibylle Kristensen). They have been working with the School of Nursing at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda to help to expand research capacity of nurses within Department of Nursing, College of Medicine, and Mulago District Hospital Nursing Staff.
Beginning in the Spring of 2006, the School of Nursing launched a second initiative with support from the ICER project, to offer a research coordination course to 22 study coordinators at three sites: Uganda, Mali, and India.
