Current work in Honduras includes partnerships with the School of Nursing at the National University of Honduras, and with the Central America Medical Outreach (CAMO) organization. UASON faculty are partnering with faculty at the School of Nursing at the National University of Honduras (NUAH) to implement and evaluate an educational intervention (Familias Fuertes) for parents and adolescents in a low income neighborhood in Tegucigalpa. In addition, UASON faculty member Dr. Lygia Holcomb is working with nursing faculty at the NUAH to advise on development of a master's degree program. Other nursing faculty (Dr. Carol Dashiff, Dr. Jill Ross, and Dr. Ellen Buckner) are collaborating with nurses in Santa Rosa de Copan to develop a project focused on the problem of family violence in Honduras. In addition, Dr. Karen Saenz and Dr. Lygia Holcomb lead annual study abroad courses to Santa Rosa de Copan where they link with nurses and with CAMO to identify and address local health needs.
