Dr. Lynda Wilson spent 6 months at the Catholic University of Chile as a visiting scholar on a Fulbright-supported award from 2003-2004. During this visit Dr. Wilson worked with PUC faculty to survey Latin American nurses about their perceptions of research competencies needed by nurses with different levels of academic preparation. Visiting Nursing Faculty from Chile, January 2006

In January, 2006, a group of 15 Chilean nursing faculty visited UAB for a 1-month program in which they studied English at the English Language and Culture Institute, and also participated in seminars and visits to clinical facilities, led by many UAB faculty. The Chilean nurses were hosted by volunteer families. The Chilean faculty also presented programs at a meeting of nurse practitioners organized by the Alabama State Nurses' Association, and a meeting of the Nu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. The School of Nursing hopes to expand this program and offer it at least every other year to nurses throughout Latin America, focusing on "Leadership and Management for Professional Nurses.
In January 2008, three nurses from Chile attended the International Nursing Leadership Institute and initiated projects aimed at improving child and family nursing in Chile in collaboration with UAB School of Nursing faculty.
