International Programs

The world is truly a global village, and the School of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UASON) is committed to promoting global health opportunities in research, education, and service for students and faculty. In order to be effective health care providers in the 21^st century, it is essential that nurses have an appreciation and awareness of cross-cultural and global influences on health. Strategies to promote student awareness of global and international health issues include study-abroad programs, short-term immersion experiences in international settings, and incorporation of global health perspectives and content throughout the nursing curriculum. Teaching and scholarship programs of faculty are strengthened by partnerships with international colleagues, and such partnerships also bring opportunities for faculty service to address global health needs.
