The following scholarship opportunities are found outside the School of Nursing’s Scholarship office. Please note phone numbers and/or addresses following each opportunity. Air Force ROTC Nurse Scholarship - Air Force ROTC two and three year nursing scholarships. These scholarships pay tuition, fees, textbook reimbursement, and a $100 monthly allowance. Active duty obligation is four years upon completion of program. For more information, contact the Air Force ROTC at (205) 836-4124 or (205) 870-2954. Alabama State Nursing Scholarship - This $600 scholarship is available only to Alabama residents who have been admitted to and are currently attending clinical nursing courses with a 2.5 grade point average or higher in the School of Nursing undergraduate program. A student receiving these funds must plan to work within the state of Alabama for at least one year immediately after graduation. If the student does not work within the state, these funds become a loan and must be repaid. The UAB Financial Aid Office administers this scholarship.
Army ROTC Scholarship - Army ROTC nurse scholarships are offered for four, three, and two years on a competitive basis. Each scholarship pays full tuition and required educational fees up to $17,000 per year, $600 for textbooks, and a monthly stipend, currently $250 for every year the scholarship is in effect. All three and four year scholarships will also receive an incentive of $1,000 yearly for every year the scholarship is in effect. Brookwood Medical Center Scholarship - Brookwood offers undergraduate and graduate scholarships to nursing students enrolled in accredited nursing schools who meet the following criteria: overall “B” average (3.0 on 4.0 scale), a “B” in nursing courses, member of Association of Nursing Students preferred, and recommendation from faculty advisor and Financial Aid Office. A contract must be signed by the scholarship recipient, which obligates him/her to work full-time at Brookwood Medical Center immediately after graduation for one or two years depending on the length of time the recipient was supported by Brookwood Medical Center. Eastern Health Systems, Inc. Loan Scholarship (Medical Center East) - Eastern Health Systems, Inc. offers scholarship amounts of $2,500 per academic year for a maximum of four (4) years. Scholarships will be granted to students pursuing a career in nursing who meet the following criteria: Acceptance to the School of Nursing, a "B" average in most recently completed education and acceptance by a selection committee. A grade point average of at least a "C" must be maintained to remain in the program. To apply, an applicant must provide a completed application, letters of recommendation, transcripts and other necessary information as may be needed by the selection committee. An agreement to work one year for each year of monies provided will be required to be signed after acceptance and before monies can be expended. Sigma Theta Tau Scholarship - Up to a total amount of $1,500 each year is available for full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are in good standing. Preference will be given to active Sigma Theta Tau International members. However, membership in Sigma Theta Tau International is not a requirement. A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 is required, and for graduate students, a GRE score of 1,000 (Quantitative and Verbal) if required for admission, is highly desired. Scholarship period is September 1 to August 31.
ABN Scholarships - Legislation was passed during the 2007 regular legislative session appropriating $557,000 of Education Trust Funds to the Board of Nursing to administer scholarships for nurses.
