USA (Undergraduate Student Association)
Students enrolled in the undergraduate program in the School of Nursing are members of the USA. The purpose of the USA is to provide service to the School of Nursing Undergraduate students and to facilitate communication between undergraduate students and the School of Nursing faculty, administration and UAB. Officers are elected once a year and each BSN class appoints two USA Senators to the USA. Funding is provided by Student Service fees and the NGSA Advisor is the Director of Undergraduate Student Affairs.
NGSA (Nursing Graduate Student Association) Students enrolled in graduate programs of the School of Nursing are members of the NGSA. The NGSA’s main functions are to provide service to the School of Nursing graduate students and to facilitate communication between graduate students and the School of Nursing faculty, administration and UAB. Funding is provided by Student Service fees and the NGSA Advisor is the Director of Graduate Student Affairs.
UAB-SNA
The UAB-SNA (Student Nurses Association) promotes and upholds high professional standards, aids in the professional growth and development of students, promotes professional and social unity among nursing students and acquaints students with the professional nursing organizations, Membership in the UAB-SNA is open to students in the School of Nursing at UAB. Membership in the UAB organization also provides for membership in the Alabama Association of Nursing Students, as well as the National Student Nurses’ Association.
UAB HealthCorp
The UAB HealthCorps offers a unique opportunity to interact with students from the six health-related schools on the UAB campus. With the HealthCorps, you will also use your professional training and skills to give back to an underserved population in or around the Birmingham area. The main purpose of the UAB HealthCorps is to foster understanding and promote interaction between the represented disciplines at the professional level. Twelve members will be chosen for the upcoming year – two students each from the Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professions, Medicine, Nursing, Optometry, and Public Health. Sigma Theta Tau - Nu Chapter As a knowledge and leadership organization, the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International responds to health and nursing profession trends and issues that are germane to its mission. The UAB chapter (Nu chapter) was chartered in 1958, the 12th chapter to be chartered by STTI.
Pre-Nursing Shadowing ProgramIn cooperation between the School of Nursing, UAB Career Services and University Hospital, Pre-Nursing Shadowing sessions are held every semester. Currently enrolled UAB Pre-Nursing students may register for a session through the UAB Career Services Office. The Shadowing Program consists of an introduction from the School of Nursing, an orientation on what to expect from the shadowing experience and an afternoon of shadowing a nurse professional at University Hospital.
