Nu Chapter was chartered June 21st, 1958 as the 12th chapter of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. On June 21st, 2008, we will celebrate that landmark event with our 50th Anniversary Luncheon at The Club. Invitations will be going out to the more than 2,000 members who have been inducted since our founding. The luncheon will recognize Charter members and Past Presidents and will be an opportunity for Nu members throughout our history to meet the five decades of nurse scholars who come together through the chapter.
The keynote presentation will be given by Anita Smith, longtime medical writer for The Birmingham News and author of the History of the UAB School of Nursing. Anita will highlight how Margaret Millsap, first president of Nu Chapter and pioneer of nursing in Alabama, exemplifies the incredible potential in the chapter members then and now. Those who register by June 1st will receive a special memento of the 50th Anniversary. Please join us for a celebration of 50 years of Nursing Scholarship through Nu Chapter!!
Plans are also underway for Nu Chapter's hosting Fall Region 8 Conference, October 16-18. The Call for Abstracts is inside-due date is May 15th!! Opportunities for verbal presentations by individuals, groups, and chapters are included. Posters, panels, and podium sessions are possible. Chapter development sessions will be a highlight, and a special forum for and by new graduate inductees is in the works!!! The keynote speaker is Karen Morin, a Nu member and President-elect of STTI. This conference will showcase the Alabama chapters.
