Chevis N. Shannon, MBA, MPH, DrPH

Chevis N. Shannon, MBA, MPH, DrPH Dr. Shannon is an Assistant Professor in UAB's Division of Neurosurgery. Dr. Shannon, who holds an MBA, an MPH in Epidemiology, and a Doctorate in Public Health, has over 12 years of clinical research experience. She has developed and managed both domestic and international multi-center clinical trials and quality improvement initiatives. Dr. Shannon's experiences in multi-disciplinary colation building, protocol development, study design, database development and management, site development and management, create an invaluable resource for residents and faculty alike. In her capacity as Associate Director of Clinical Research, Dr. Shannon not only oversees neurosurgical resident research, project development, and data analysis, she facilitates resident research education including Medical Evidence Conference. Additionally she supervises graduate assistants who provide the Division with support, medical students participating in summer research, and manages the internship program.

Her own research interests include: patient level outcomes related to standardization of clinical care, cost-effectiveness outcomes related to surgical and educational interventions, and neuropsychological outcomes related to injuries and chronic illness with specific interest related to children with hydrocephalus, abusive head trauma and sports-related injuries.  She is an active member of the Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network and an investigator in the Park-Reeves Syringomyelia Research Consortium. She sits on the Spina Bifida of Alabama board where she serves as the Vice President and is the Chair of the Birmingham Pediatric and Adolescent Hydrocephalus Support Group. Additionally, Dr. Shannon is a member of the Children's Hospital Sports Concussion Task Force.
