President GarrisonIntroducing Leadership UAB

On behalf of the university, I would like to congratulate the Leadership UAB Class of 2009, our newest group of community advisors.

Made up of young professionals offering their support to the university, the group’s annual membership class will consist of approximately 50 people between the ages of 25 and 40 selected to represent a cross-section of Birmingham’s vibrant community.

Leadership UAB seeks to select proven leaders in the community to learn about the university and meet other young professionals. Each member of the Class of 2009 was selected because he or she possesses the qualities of leadership that will help move Birmingham and UAB forward as we act as what one might call a “communiversity,” working together toward a shared vision and goals.

I am very excited about this organization, and about the energy this group of professional, volunteer, and civic leaders will bring to the university’s ongoing endeavors in teaching, research, community service, and patient care. The program we have developed to educate them on the university’s vision and mission will lead to a better understanding of UAB, and the time they spend together and with UAB students, faculty, and staff will help build lasting relationships.

As members of Leadership UAB, they are starting a new chapter in our university’s ongoing story, and building upon our tradition of excellence.

Sincerely,
Carol Z. Garrison, Ph.D.
President
