Configuring Mac OS X to access UABWiFi

  1. Go to "Networks" in the System Preferences window. At the Locations menu, go to "New Location." 




    When prompted, create a name so you'll know where this location is used. Notice here the network is named "UABWiFi."
  2. Make sure AirPort is selected in the "Show" menu. 



     
    If you do not see AirPort listed, click on "Network Port Configurations" and make sure the AirPort box is checked. 





     Now Airport should be available in the menu.
  3. Select "Join a specific network," and in the "Network" field enter: UABWiFi 



     
    When prompted, create a name so you'll know where this location is used. Notice here the network is named "UABWiFi."
  4. In the Password field, enter the pre-assigned WEP key (*see the WEP key page for details).
  5. Close the System Preferences window, and select the AirPort icon on the top of the screen. Turn the AirPort on, and in a few seconds it will recognize the UABWiFi network. You can also open Internet Connection to turn the Airport on/off, as well as monitor the strength of the wireless signal.

     


Once your connection has been configured, you will still need to authenticate through your Web browser. Follow the on-screen instructions upon opening your browser window to gain access to UAB WiFi.
