Configuring Clients to Read UAB Email

There are different settings you must apply to your client depending on what protocol you choose to use. If you do not understand the differences in protocols, refer to our Clients & Protocols page before continuing to configure your client.

Outlook Client and MAPI Protocol: (complete instructions)

  • Set MAPI server “uabmsx1.ad.uab.edu"

Outlook Express and IMAP or POP3 Protocol: (complete instructions)

  • Email Server Name (incoming mail): mail.ad.uab.edu
  • Outgoing server: relay.ad.uab.edu/port 587 with TLS and BlazerID authentication

Other Clients using IMAP or POP3 Protocol:

If you are using an IMAP or POP3 client, such as OS X Mail (complete instructions) Entourage (complete instructions) or Thunderbird (complete instructions) the client will need to be capable of providing Secure connection (SSL). Below are the appropriate settings to configure your IMAP and POP3 clients to read your Exchange email:

  • Mailbox server (incoming mail): mail.ad.uab.edu
  • Outgoing server: relay.ad.uab.edu/port 587 with SMTP
  • Web Browser Using HTTP
