Configuring the Outlook Express Email Client using HTTP, IMAP and POP3

  1. Start Outlook Express
  2. Pull down the Tools menu and select Accounts (screenshot)
  3. Select the Mail tab and click Add then Mail (screenshot)
  4. Enter Display Name, click Next (screenshot)
  5. Enter full UAB Email Address, click Next (screenshot)
  6. In the Email Server Names window enter (screenshot)
    • My Incoming Mail server is: choose (HTTP, IMAP, or POP3)
    • Incoming Mail Server: mail.ad.uab.edu
    • Outgoing Mail Server: relay.ad.uab.edu
    • Then click Next
  7. Enter Account Name-full email address
  8. Next, click Finish (screenshot)
  9. In the Internet Accounts window, select the account you just set up and click Properties (screenshot)
  10. In the Properties window, click the Advanced tab (screenshot)
    • Under Outgoing mail, check This server requires a secure connection (SSL) and change the port from 25 to 587.
    • Under Incoming mail, check This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
    • Under Delivery, check Leave a copy of messages on server and choose appropriate Remove option
    • Lastly, click Apply and OK
  11. Close the Internet Accounts window. You are ready to begin using UAB Email.
