Professional Development Program

To be successful in your graduate program and later to excel in your profession endeavors, you need to be a highly skilled communicator. Classes and workshops are offered through the Professional Development Program that will enhance and nurture your communication skills in writing and speaking.

A broad range of topics are addressed in workshops and courses: presentation and discussion skills, writing professionally, writing up research, grant writing, teaching at the college level, principles of scientific integrity, and career development. A complete list of courses can be found at

Courses are offered for non-native English speakers as well: culture and speaking, speaking and listening strategies, style and grammar, pronunciation and accent reduction. Courses for non-native English speakers can be found at

Students may also work individually with instructors on writing projects (GRD 704 Specialized Instruction) or on improving pronunciation (GRD 714 Individualized Pronunciation). Course descriptions can be found at

Register for any of the Professional Development workshops or classes when you register for your other classes. The cost is the same as tuition for regular classes. Most classes are 3 credit hours, and most workshops are 1 credit hour. All Professional Development workshops and classes are Pass/Fail.
