The UAB Graduate School's Professional Development Program administers free English Academic Language Assessments for international graduate students (those who were required to take the TOEFL exam), post-docs and UAB employees. The purpose of the assessment is to identify your current level of academic English proficiency and to provide you with the appropriate language support for a successful experience at UAB. The two-part assessment consists of:
1) A 20-minute, one-on-one structured interview that is recorded;
2) A 1-hour persuasive essay-writing sample.
If you are a graduate student, your English Language Assessment scores will be sent to you and your department for advising purposes. Based on these scores, one or more writing or spoken English courses may be recommended or required by your departmental program to assist you in your graduate training and professional development.
