Dr. Louis Dell'Italia, professor of medicine, has been a UAB faculty member for 20 years. Dr. Dell'Italia received a BA in biology from Holy Cross College in 1974 and his MD from Georgetown University in 1978. He is currently the director for the Center for Heart Failure Research at UAB and the director of the Coronary Care Unit at the VA Hospital here in Birmingham.
The letters written by Dr. Dell'Italia's nominators reference personal and professional growth through his guidance. One trainee wrote, "Dr. Dell'Italia has always placed an important emphasis on trainee career development. In addition to learning key skills such as preparation of manuscripts, we have been supported and encouraged to write grants, submit and present our work to regional and national meetings. Dr. Dell'Italia has spent many hours with all members of the lab going over manuscripts, poster and slide presentations and as a result many members of the lab including myself have not only published manuscripts but also won regional/national awards for our work."
