Dear UAB Community:
The Academic Realignment Commission (ARC) met on April 30-May 1, 2009, to continue its deliberations regarding options for realignment of the schools of Arts & Humanities, Business, Education, Engineering, Natural Sciences & Mathematics and Social & Behavioral Sciences. Teams of commission members met with faculty, students and professional staff from each of the schools to listen to questions and concerns related to the options paper that the ARC is developing.
Following these meetings, the ARC met with student leaders, leadership from the health sciences, and university administrators to learn more about the key issues informing the options paper. We also discussed the significant number of proposals that had been received through the Web site and the insights that they presented.
The ARC will return to campus in early June to present a draft options paper to university leadership. This report will be only the beginning of a continued set of discussions on these issues involving the president, the provost and the entire UAB community.
