President, provost to host school meetings June 24-25
President Carol Garrison and Provost Eli Capilouto will meet with deans, faculty and staff June 24-25 to discuss options for realigning the schools of Arts & Humanities, Business, Education, Engineering, Natural Sciences & Mathematics and Social & Behavioral Sciences.
On June 15 the Academic Realignment Commission (ARC) presented three options to the university community. A video of the presentation and question-and-answer session is online, and faculty and staff are encouraged to submit comments about specific aspects of the ARC report through an online survey.

ARC to present its report to university community June 15
School meetings with UAB president and provost scheduled
On June 9 the Academic Realignment Commission (ARC) submitted a report to President Carol Garrison and Provost Eli Capilouto with recommendations for possible options for realignment of the schools of Arts & Humanities, Business, Education, Engineering, Natural Sciences & Mathematics and Social & Behavioral Sciences.
On June 15, Dr. Mark Rosenberg, chair of the ARC, will present the commission’s report to the deans and library directors, and later to the university community at 11 a.m. in the Alys Stephens Center Jemison Concert Hall. A video presentation will be posted on this site.
Faculty and staff are also encouraged to submit comments about specific aspects of the ARC report through an online survey. More information will be available at the June 15 presentation.
Following that, Drs. Garrison and Capilouto will first meet with each dean to discuss the report with them individually. On June 24 and 25, Drs. Garrison and Capilouto will hold meetings with the deans and chairs in each school; faculty and staff from that school are encouraged to attend.

Academic Realignment Commission schedules town hall meetings April 30
Members of the Academic Realignment Commission will conduct town hall meetings Thursday, April 30 for each of the six schools they are reviewing. Faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend and participate in candid dialogue with commissioners about the realignment study. Times and locations for each school are posted online. If you cannot attend, please e-mail your questions or comments to commission@uab.edu.
The Academic Realignment Commission has been charged with the following tasks:
- Review/assess various options for realignment and reorganization of schools of Arts & Humanities, Business, Education, Engineering, Natural Sciences & Mathematics and Social & Behavioral Sciences
- Engage university community in discussion of possible new alignments
- Focus on options that enhance opportunities for innovative, multi-disciplinary educational programs and productive partnerships, increase capacity for strategic investments and maximize efficiencies
- Make recommendations as to the advantages and disadvantages of various options
The ARC will not focus on other issues such as budget proposals, personnel or matters regarding individual degree programs or curricula.
