The objective of the major in accounting is to provide basic conceptual accounting and business knowledge as a foundation for beginning professional careers as accountants in the fields of public accounting, private or industrial accounting, and governmental accounting, or for pursuing study at the graduate level. In the senior year, students may specialize to a limited extent by taking one or more advanced courses in a particular field.
Forensic accounting & information technology auditing
The faculty of UAB's Department of Accounting & Information Systems recognized the need for and developed an area of concentration in forensic accounting and information technology auditing that focuses on fraud examination techniques and a general understanding of fraud. Accounting and information systems majors may choose, as part of or in addition to the courses required for the major, from the four-course area of concentration.
