2009 Summer Bridge Program for Business Students Overview
Purpose
The Summer Bridge Program for Business Students is a cooperative effort between the UAB School of Business, the UAB Minority Business Training and Development Program and the UAB Office of Equity and Diversity focusing on enabling participating minority high school graduates to achieve a smooth transition to college.
Program Description
The 2009 Summer Bridge Program is a seven week rewarding academic opportunity for minority students who will be graduating in the spring of 2009 and are planning to attend UAB and major in business.
Selected program applicants will be required to enroll in two credit courses at UAB; one English course and one Mathematics course.
Participants will receive a stipend of $1200, tuition, free textbooks, a meal allowance and a free room in a UAB residence hall. Please note that all students are required to live in the residence hall.
Additionally, students will participate in faculty-lead tutoring sessions; career counseling; power point and poster presentation instruction; mentoring support; competitive business training and social activities to promote networking.
Each student will work with a business faculty on a business related project during the summer.
A concluding conference will highlight the accomplishments of the Bridge students and participants will receive certificates of participation and awards for outstanding projects.
Requirements
In addition to being an underrepresented minority student, participating students must:
1) Be a 2009 high school graduate with no previous college coursework;
2) Plan to major in business
3) be admitted to UAB,
4) Have a competitive ACT Score; and
5) Submit a completed 2009 Summer Bridge Program Application to be received before the deadline date of Wednesday, April 1, 2009.
