Students Get Real Life Lesson About Jeffco Sewer Crisis
As the Jefferson County sewer debt crisis enters its second year, UAB finance students are getting a real life lesson in municipal bonds. Securities, swaps, and other complicated financial transactions are at the center of the county's $3.2 billion sewer debt. UAB Professor Andreas Rauterkus teaches undergraduate and masters classes. He has handed out assignments in both to research Jefferson County's situation. "They might see some of the mistakes that have been made.
