Four local companies are set to hand over some real-world assignments to a group of seniors at the

Starting this semester, about eight finance students will tackle one problem or challenge for each company, said Stephanie Rauterkus, assistant professor of finance who will oversee the course.

Rauterkus declined to name the companies involved, but said the basis of the four cases included financial institutions, investments, corporate finance and derivatives.

Executives from each company will present the challenge to the class and students will have about four weeks to come up with a presentation of solutions for the firm, she said.

"One of the underlying themes is the economy," said Rauterkus. "All four businesses are representing different aspects of the local economy and are interested in the same thing, just from a different perspective: How do we navigate in this economy?"

Rauterkus said the course is ideal for all parties involved - companies get low-cost consulting and students get to showcase their work for area firms.
