All undergraduate students entering the School of Business are admitted with a pre-business classification. Degree-seeking students (defined in the UAB catalogue) remain in this classification until they apply through the undergraduate counselor’s office in the School of Business. In most cases students are expected to have their pre-business classification changed within the first 80 semester hours completed.
Students interested in finance and/or economics typically complete two years of pre-business studies (or transfer from a junior college or other four-year institution) before entering either the finance or economics major as a junior. The current UAB catalog contains freshman and sophomore level course work required by UAB for the finance and economics majors and the B.S. degree in business.
By following the recommended transfer program outlined in the catalog, students entering from a junior college will receive maximum transfer credit with a smooth transition into the junior year of the degree program at the School of Business. They will also retain some flexibility in the selection of electives from UAB’s wide range of offerings. All students entering UAB from another college or university should check the UAB catalog to determine the exact requirements that must be met at the time of transfer.
