The mission of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems is simple. We are committed to providing a high-quality, practice-oriented educational experience to our students. Through our accounting and information systems programs, we offer an educational foundation that will prepare students for professional careers in business, information technology and accounting or enable them to pursue graduate studies.
First and foremost, our dedicated and caring faculty are excellent teachers. They work constantly to advance and move our programs forward with current curricula. They excel not only as great teachers and mentors, but also as positive motivators. They are extremely active in the professional community and contribute intellectual contributions to our disciplines and the business world.
Our diverse group of students continues to excel inside and outside of the classroom. The dedication of our students is quite amazing -- many of whom work, do internships, have families and yet are extremely driven to achieving their professional goals. The job market in accounting and information systems continues to remain very strong and steady. Our students continue to do well on professional examinations and thus they have many opportunities for career placement.
We continue to increase the scholarship amounts given each year. This past year, the accounting program presented over $108,000 in scholarships to deserving students ranging from high school seniors, to current undergraduate and masters students. The information systems program awarded $36,500 in scholarships. Several of our students received national scholarships.
The accounting and information systems programs at UAB have long been successful and we will continue to provide our students an excellent education that prepares them for the real world.
