The Department of Management & Organization at UAB offers courses on how organizations, as well as practicing and aspiring managers can best manage internal and external challenges in order to meet organizational goals and objectives. The content of our courses ranges from organization-wide topics such as competitive positioning, managing new technologies, managing change, to the skills needed by individual managers, such as working in teams, ethical decision-making, managing a diverse workforce, developing excellent oral and written communication skills, and effectively exercising influence. Students are introduced to all facets of management, including operations management, human resources, organizational behavior, and change management. Our courses stress the diagnostic skills that enable students to understand, analyze and solve problems in organizations, as well as the opportunity to develop leadership, social and interpersonal skills.
The Department of Management & Organization offers an undergraduate degree in management. Students who wish to pursue a career in human resources can major in management and receive specialized study through an area of concentration in human resources. Our faculty teach in both the undergraduate program and the Master of Business Administration program.
The career counselors and management faculty are available to discuss courses which create the best “strategic fit” for the students and their career objectives.
